Barracudas on patrol around Mabul Island.

Shot off Sipadan and Mabul islands, in Malaysian Borneo. Noah and I did our rescue diver course in April 2024 with Scuba Junkie on Mabul Island. Two days of training in the house reef, 5 days of boat and night dives afterwards, punctuated by long session of Monopoly Deal, chicken and rice, and laps upon laps around the small Mabul Island. The area is known for two main contrasts; terrific muck diving for small stuff around Mabul and Kapalai, and big walls and deep blue diving around Sipadan; large pellagics, sharks, turtles, and big stuff like hammerheads, eagle ray flocks and orcas which rise out of the 3000m depths around the volcanic spire islands. Some of the best 10 days you can do.
